Holiday fun from Dr. Seuss: Horton Hears a Who!
If you were watching the the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! closely you may have seen Horton from Horton Hears a Who come to life as an enormous balloon. First a book, then a movie, then a balloon? Boy, that Horton gets around a lot!
Dr. Seuss’ classical tale, Horton Hears a Who, imparts to children and adults alike the meaning of compassion, forgiveness and faith. A Horton themed gift set would make great holiday present. You can give them the original, classic Dr. Suess book , and the DVD movie version with an all-star voice cast including Jim Carrey, Steve Carell, and Carol Burnett.
So many DVD versions!
But what DVD version of Horton Hears a Who! to get them? The most inexpensive is the single disk. The Horton Hears a Who! (widescreen two-disc special edition + digital copy)
includes deleted footage and animation screen tests, a featurette on animating Horton, and interviews with the actors. There’s a short called “Our Speck: Where Do We Fit In?” which uses interviews with everyday kids to show how even small actions can help make the world a better place. There’s also a “We Are Here!” memory game. The Blu-Ray version has all this and more including an exclusive special feature “Watch Horton Hears a Who! with a Who!”
But the Horton Hears a Who! Gift Set with Plush Horton Gift Set with a Horton plush and the two-disk DVD is the real winner. (Make sure you buy it in person to make sure you get the DVD and plush only. The set on Amazon says it comes with the audio CD, but doesn’t according to the reviewers.) What girl or boy wouldn’t like a Horton to hug while watching the movie or having it read as a night time story?
By the way, my kids loved the movie, so I’m sure the little boy or girl in your life will adore it, too.
