Have you ever wanted to go on assignment with National Geographic? Then maybe you should enter your child in the 2009 National Geographic Kids Hands-On Explorer Challenge.
Fifteen young explorers and two teachers will be selected as members of the 2009 National Geographic Kids Hands-On Explorer Challenge Expedition Team and will win the field trip of a lifetime — a 12-day expedition to Peru with National Geographic and local experts as their guides.
Highlights include exploring the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu, voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and visiting Tambopata Reserve deep in the Peruvian rain forest, where team members will have the opportunity to help in a research laboratory. All winners will also receive a digital camera courtesy of Nikon.
The challenge is sponsored by National Geographic Kids magazine, PromPeru, and the marketers of PURELL.

Be Part of History! Celebrate the Inauguration of the 44th President, Barack Obama, by Donating a Book like What Does the President Do?
Sallie Mae the nation’s leading provider of saving and paying for college programs, along with Building Hope, a D.C. based private foundation that supports charter schools and Reading Is Fundamental, the nation’s oldest and largest nonprofit children’s literacy organization have joined together to launch a nationwide book drive to celebrate the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama.
The goal of the “Reading Is Presidential” inaugural book drive is to collect more than 44,000 books for Washington, D.C. Schools in honor of the historic election of the nation’s 44th president.
For every $5 donation, you will provide one new book to a DC Public School child, as well as providing support to RIF’s national mission. The book drive runs from January 8 through Inauguration Day, January 20.

One of the activities we like to do as a family is watch sports. We regularly attend CU Buffs men’s and women’s basketball games, and like watching sports on TV like football (college and pro), hockey, baseball and even bowling and curling. If it’s considered a sport, we’re watching it. (Sports fishing anyone?)
