Should You Purchase Refurbished or New Appliances

Should you purchase refurbished appliances?  Sometimes it is okay to purchase refurbished appliances rather than brand new appliances.  However, before you purchase any appliance that is not brand new you should have several questions to ask the seller and you should be prepared for any potential repairs that you might have to do.

What To Know Before You Buy
Before you purchase your appliance you should make sure that you understand exactly which parts have been replaced, when they were replaced, the specific parts they were replaced with and the warranty on the parts or the entire appliance.  You will be able to learn a lot about the quality of the particular appliance that you are purchasing if you have this information.  If a store is hesitant to provide it or you have any doubts about their truthfulness then move on and purchase your refurbished appliance elsewhere.

What to Expect After You Buy
No matter how thorough you were in your investigation of the appliance before you purchased it there is always the potential that one part or another is going to break and need to be replaced.  You should be prepared for this to occur at any time.  It might be helpful if you do some research and learn how to diagnose problems for that particular appliance.  You should also know where you can purchase new and reasonably priced appliance parts for your machine.  This is particularly important if you purchase a machine that has been discontinued such as the Whirlpool Whispure Air Purifier.  Whirlpool parts are still available for the Whispure but they may be more difficult to find.  You should be prepared to decide whether you will be doing the appliance repair job yourself or if you will be hiring a qualified technician to do the work.

It is important to consider all of the above factors when you decide whether to be a refurbished or a new appliance.  If you purchase a refurbished appliance knowing all the answers to your questions and being prepared for whatever repairs might be ahead of you then a refurbished appliance might be a good choice.  However, if you have any doubts then a new appliance might be a better investment for you.
