I watch the other male and female members who look terrific because they put in their gym time like we do. That is why they look the way they do. I’ll also bet they watch what they eat as well. Smoothies – Instead of having plain milk, try some new fruitful flavors with delicious smoothies. Having fresh fruits in the morning with milk also help in cleaning the antioxidants from your body. Try new fruits or smoothie recipes for kids and they will always ask for more every day. Preparing smoothies hardly takes time and gives you a good break from the eating routine every morning.

My favorite recommendation; a glass of red wine has been shown to help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease and because of the flavanols in red wine, also contains anti-inflammatory properties. Don’t get too excited though, because these benefits only come from up to one glass per day for women and two glasses per day for men at the maximum. Anything beyond that and you actually see a decrease in the benefits of red wine.

Fiber is especially important to a diabetics diet. We should have fiber, along with Vitamin D, Calcium, and Omega-3s at every meal. (The guidelines for these 4 particular fat-fighters are a good idea for anyone, diabetic or not.) Here are a few examples of the fiber content of some common foods: 1 medium apple = about 3 grams, 1/2 cup fresh raspberries = 4 grams, 1 cup cooked fresh spinach = 4 grams, and 1/2 cup chickpeas = 6 gram. In reference to the above tidbit, this is why it is important to eat whole-grain breads.
